Over 50 youth artists (CHAMPIONS) to use social media to raise awareness during the 16 days of activisim against GBV 2025.

For the past 5 years, digital violence has been targeted at women more than men, across all walks of life, especially those with public or online visibility, such as activists, journalists, Social influencers, women in politics, human rights defenders and young women.

Every year, from 25 November to 10 December, mark the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender-based Violence. This year’s theme is “Unite to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls”, which insists on the urgency to address online abuse for women and girls.

During the 16 days of activism against GBV, these artists will utilize their social media channels to disseminate awareness messages to remind Youth and the wider Tanzanian community that Online and digital spaces should empower women and girls, not a Centre for disinformation, Online harassment, sexual exploitation, Hate speech, non-consensual sharing of intimate images/leaked nudes.

June and October 2025, Kaa Kijanja Organisation in partnership with DSW Tanzania and the Government of Tanzania equipped over 50 youth artists (Male and Females) from regions of Arusha, Dar Es Salaam, Iringa and Mbeya were trained about National Plan of Action to End Violence Against Women and Children (NPA VAWC II, 2024/25–2028/29) Framework and to creative ways to use Arts to raise awareness about Gender Base Violence preventions in Tanzania. After the training, these artists created a powerful collection of awareness content addressing various forms of violence: VAC, VAW, and Digital Abuse. The Artworks include Music, poetry, Short films, film, Theatre Plays, paintings, Drawings, graffiti, 2D animation/comics, AI pictures and Graphics.

The awareness message will also widely cover the offline violence in real life (IRL), such as Various forms of Violence Against Children (VAC), and Violence Against Women (VAW), such as coercion, physical abuse, and even femicide killing of women and girls. Some of the awareness messages will also be shared through the Kaa Kijanja Instagram page.

Kaa Kijanja Organisation believes that these artists' efforts will contribute effectively to the efforts za Pamoja of raising awareness to End Gender violence in our country. Kaa Kijanja Organisation is calling out to the Government of Tanzania, NGOs, and development stakeholders to invest in Artistic movements working to end GBV, raise awareness about protecting women, girls, & Children both online and offline. Kaa Kijanja also calls out for the artists and social influencers to speak out, host and participate in dialogues that challenge harmful online norms.
